He authored five chapters of a board review book for PM&R residents, Principles of Rehabilitation Medicine.
Neuroplasticity as an Approach to Pain Management by Marla Golden, DO Dr. Golden is the former dean of PCOM South Georgia osteopathic medical school, and currently the dean of the proposed Benedictine College School of Osteopathic Medicine (Atchison, KS). Dr. Golden is the author of “Neuroplastic Transformation Workbook” to help patients with persistent pain by harnessing the brain’s amazing neuroplastic ability to heal the body.
The Not-So-Scary Facts About HVLA by Kristie Petree, DO Following this session learners will be able to do the following: 1) Define High Velocity Low Amplitude (HVLA) technique. 2) Explain the mechanism of action for HVLA. 3) Recognize indications and contraindications, for the application of HVLA. Dr. Petree is the former assistant professor of neuromusculoskeletal and osteopathic manipulative medicine at PCOM South Georgia. Dr. Petree has published articles in the Journal of the American Osteopathic Association, American Academy of Osteopathy Journal, and the International Journal of Osteopathic Medicine.
Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS), also known as Biotoxin Illness by Christine Daecher, DO Following this session learners will be able to do the following: 1. Know the exposures that may cause the development of CIRS 2. Recognize a possible CIRS patient based on symptoms and exposures. 3. Use Visual Contrast Sensitivity (VCS) testing to screen patients 4. Know which test to use to screen a building for water-damage 5. Know the foundational step of treatment 6. Know what medication(s) to start and avoid for treatment 7. Apply osteopathic principles to the treatment of a patient with CIRS Dr. Daecher is a board certified internal medicine physician who has received certification from the Institute for Functional Medicine. After 14 years of solopractice in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, she has moved to Savannah to set up Savannah Functional Medicine, a virtual practice serving patients in Georgia, South Carolina and Florida.

Substance Use Disorder Update by Joseph Skrajewski, MA, MFTI Mr. Skrajewski is the national director of business development healthcare solutions at the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation. Mr. Skrajewski holds faculty positions at three different medical schools. Mr. Skrajewski was instrumental in developing the first-ever online addiction education program for medical students, CARE: Course on Addiction and Recovery Education, which was created in collaboration with MedU, the American Society of Addiction Medicine, and the Treatment Research Institute. A national thought leader on addiction education for professionals, he has collaborated on many successful initiatives involving the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM), and the American College of Academic Addiction Medicine (ACAAM). Preceptor Training for Medical Students by L. Michael Waters, DO. Dr. Waters is associate professor of family medicine & chair of primary care at PCOM Georgia in Suwanee, Georgia. He has received multiple awards for his teaching style.
Neonatology/Pediatrics Update by Gary Freed, DO Dr. Freed served as a professor of pediatrics at Emory University School of Medicine for 26 years. He also served as the pediatric clerkship director at Emory University School of Medicine for 15 years and as a participant in Emory's “Problem Based Learning Curriculum“ for adecade. Before his retirement from clinical medicine, Dr. Freed was considered one of the leading “experts” on Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and Safe Sleep in Georgia by the Georgia Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics due to his 30 years of work in this area. After retiring from Emory, Dr. Freed was a professor of pediatrics at PCOM Georgia for the past eight years.
OB/GYN Update by Matthew Shelnutt, DO, FACOOG Dr. Shelnutt is an Assistant Professor at PCOM South Georgia. He grew up in Stockbridge, GA, and obtained a bachelor of science degree in biology from Clayton State University. Dr. Shelnutt went to medical school at PCOM Georgia in Suwanee, GA, and graduated in 2017. Dr. Shelnutt completed a residency program in Obstetrics and Gynecology at University of Michigan Health West in Wyoming, MI, in 2017. He served as co-chief OB/GYN resident his senior year, and was also the Resident Representative for ACOOG's Continuing Medical Education Committee. Dr. Shelnutt was in clinical practice at Ascension Borgess Hospital following residency where he taught OB/GYN residents as a clinical assistant professor of OB/GYN for Western Michigan University's Homer Stryker MD School of Medicine. He received the OB/GYN Excellence in Teaching Award in 2022 from this institution.

Controlled Substance Prescribing by Susan Blank MD Dr. Blank is the Founder and Chief Medical Officer for the Atlanta Healing Center in Dunwoody, Georgia with specialties of psychiatry, preventative healthcare and addiction medication. She was a coauthor of the “Responsible, Safe, and Effective Prescription of Opioids for Chronic Non-Cancer Pain: American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians (ASIPP) Guidelines” published in Pain Physician in 2017 as well as “ASIPP Opioid Prescribing Guidelines” in 2023 in the same journal. Dr. Blank has served as the President of the Georgia Society of Addiction Medicine as wellas on the Advisory Board of the Georgia Physician’s Health Program. She was co-chair of the Medical Association of Georgia’s “Think About It Campaign”. She is also a past member of the Board of Directors for The Georgia Council on Alcohol and Drugs and Let’s Be Clear Georgia.
Wound Care by Darren Dillard DO Dr. Dillard joined the Family Medicine Faculty in 2021 after being in private practice for two years. He obtained his medical degree from Midwestern University-Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed residency at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnston, PA. His current medical interests include point of care ultrasound, outpatient based procedures and simulation lab. When not at work Dr. Dillard enjoys skiing, swimming, hiking, and spending time with his family.
Peripheral Vascular Disease and Current Therapies by Anu Whisenhunt, DO Dr. Anu Whisenhunt is a board certified vascular surgeon specializing in the treatment of carotid artery disease: TCAR and CEA, aortic aneurysms, and limb salvaging. She received her medical degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences, did her residency in surgery at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, and was a Vascular Surgery Fellow at Thomas Jefferson University. She enjoys spending time with her daughter, running, traveling, reading books, scuba diving, and attending comedy shows, concerts, and going to the movies.
